Soils & Hydrology is a joint collaboration between the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences and theWarnell School of Forest Resources. Each semester there are 2 instructors- one from Soils and one from Forestry. Dr. Miller teaches the soils material both Fall and Spring, and Dr. Jackson and Dr. Rasmussen teach the hydrology material in the Fall and Spring, respectively. Lab sections are led by Graduate-level Teaching Assistants with at least one Professor present. | |

Dr. William Miller specializes in soil and environmental chemistry, and has worked on a number of research projects involving land-application of industrial by-products such as fly ash, sewage sludge, gypsum and paper mill sludge. He also works with colloid dispersion and migration in soils, characterizing charge components and clay-organic interactions. In addition to CRSS/FANR 3060, Dr. Miller teaches a graduate/undergraduate courses in soil erosion and conservation, pedology, and soil judging. He received his PhD in Soil Science from Virginia Tech. Dr. Rhett Jackson specializes in forest soils, hydrology, and environmental systems with a research emphasis on forest and wetland hydrology, stormwater management, relationships between land uses and stream habitat formation, effectiveness of best management practices for protecting water quality and subsurface flow processes. He received his PhD in Hydrology from the University of Washington. Dr. Todd Rasmussen also specializes in forest soils, hydrology, and environmental systems. His research emphasis includes surface and ground water measurement and modeling, vadose zone characterization and fractured rock hydrology. Dr. Rasmussen received his PhD in Hydrology from the University of Arizona. http://www.hydrology.uga.edu/rasmussen/ |
